British Startup Aims to Beam Solar Power from Space to Iceland by 2030

A pioneering British company, Space Solar, has joined forces with Reykjavik Energy and Transition Labs with an ambitious plan to provide Iceland with solar power sourced directly from space by the year 2030. The initiative involves deploying a demonstrator satellite that will transmit 30 megawatts of clean energy back to Earth, which is enough to supply electricity to around 3,000 households.

The satellite, which will be stationed in medium Earth orbit, represents a step towards a larger goal of establishing a network of space-based solar power stations. These stations aim to deliver gigawatts of continuous electricity to our planet, with the advantage of being unaffected by terrestrial weather conditions.
