Miles Brundage Departs from OpenAI

Miles Brundage, who held the position of senior policy researcher and adviser at OpenAI, has recently departed from the company. He made this decision in order to engage in work within the nonprofit sector that he believes will have a greater impact, and where he will have the freedom to publish more openly. Brundage stated that although his tenure at OpenAI provided a significant opportunity for high-impact work, he felt compelled to leave to focus on the importance of conducting independent research in the field of AI policy.

OpenAI has expressed support for Brundage’s decision to leave. In response to his departure, the company is reorganizing the responsibilities of the AGI readiness team. Economic research will now fall under the leadership of Ronnie Chatterji, while mission alignment projects will be managed by Joshua Achiam.
