This content is then purportedly used by Perplexity’s AI technology to generate responses that replace the need for users to visit the original news websites, subsequently impacting News Corp’s revenue.
The media conglomerate is demanding compensation of $150,000 for each act of infringement, in addition to seeking further damages that reflect the profits Perplexity has earned from the use of the copyrighted material. This legal battle underscores the growing concerns around the use of AI in relation to copyright laws and the protection of intellectual property in the digital age.
