The European Space Agency (ESA) has embarked on an ambitious project known as HydRON, or High thRoughput Optical Network, which seeks to transform satellite communication. By utilizing advanced laser technology, HydRON is designed to facilitate quicker connections between satellites and terrestrial networks. This innovative network is set to overcome the challenges posed by traditional radio frequency systems by offering high-speed, high-capacity communication links.

The development of HydRON is structured in multiple phases, initially featuring a constellation of ten satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The primary goal of this project is to enable rapid data transfer rates, seamlessly integrate with existing terrestrial fiber optic networks, and enhance global communication infrastructure.
