An international team of researchers has discovered that the majority of known meteorite falls, approximately 70%, can be traced back to three specific asteroid families located in the main asteroid belt: Karin, Koronis, and Massalia. These families were created as a result of collisions that took place millions of years ago. This research has been instrumental in pinpointing the sources of more than 90% of all meteorites, greatly improving our knowledge of where they come from.
