Astronomers Use AI to Analyze Small-Scale Details in the Universe

A team of astronomers has made a breakthrough in the study of the universe by using artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze small-scale details in the distribution of galaxies. The AI model was trained on 2,000 simulated universes, each with different cosmological settings, and then fed real data from a big survey. The result was the revelation of additional information that had not been extracted before.

The AI method was able to determine the parameter describing the universe’s “clumpiness” with less than half the uncertainty of traditional methods. This breakthrough makes it possible for astronomers to do more with less data and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
