According to reports, the victim was allegedly placed under “digital arrest for 10 hours through Skype call” and was threatened with arrest if she did not cooperate with the investigation. The cybercriminals used various tactics to convince the victim to transfer the money, including claiming that her bank account had been hacked and that the money needed to be transferred to a “safe account.”

The victim, who has not been named, eventually transferred the money to the cybercriminals’ account. It was only later that she realized that she had been duped and filed a complaint with the police.

The police have registered a case under sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act and section 318 (4) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections deal with cybercrime and punishment for cheating by impersonation, respectively.
